Sub-Saharan Africa's biggest cement manufacturer told the Nigerian Exchange on Wednesday that its shareholders have assented to the proposal to host a Capital Markets Day in London on 21 September 2026.

The event follows shareholders' authorisation of the board to pursue a secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange at the company's 17th Annual General Meeting, held in Lagos on July 2, 2026. Aliko Dangote confirmed to the Financial Times that approximately 10% of Dangote Cement could be sold to outside investors through the London secondary listing.

Aliko Dangote cited eased listing requirements by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority as a key factor behind the decision. The company attempted to list on the London Stock Exchange back in 2018, but reportedly faced several challenges.

The Facts

  • Capital Markets Day scheduled for September 21, 2026, in London

  • ~10% stake to be sold to international investors

  • JPMorgan, Citigroup and Standard Bank appointed as advisers

  • Market cap approximately ₦17.3 trillion as of late August 2026

Why it matters

Dangote Cement's market cap has increased by 98.85% in one year, making it one of the NGX's best performers (ticker: DANGCEM). A London listing could deepen foreign investor access to Nigeria's premier cement play at a time when foreign participation in equity trading stood at 5.6% in July on the NGX. For diaspora investors, the dual listing offers an alternative entry point into one of Africa's most profitable industrial franchises, potentially at tighter spreads and with better liquidity than Lagos.

What to look out for

Watch for the presentation materials Dangote Cement promises to release before September 21. The LSE timeline remains subject to market conditions and regulatory approvals; any delay could signal investor appetite or compliance hurdles.
